Our Little Monkey

On 8-08-08 Carson turned 6 months old (yes, yes...I know this was almost a month ago...I'm a little slow on the blogging) ! I can't believe how fast time has gone by since he came into our lives. He is such a sweet baby and brings so much joy into our lives. We can't believe how easy he is to take care of and how well he rolls with life. Everyday he is learning and growing so much; it's incredible to see. Here are his latest stats (stole this idea from Becky):

Name: Carson Dee Miles
Age: 6 months and 3 weeks old (as of this post)
Weight: 20.5 lbs
Height: 27.5 inches
Clothing size: 9months
Favorite Foods: bananas, peaches, formula
Favorite toys: exersaucer, stuffed skunk, plastic spoons, and paper towels-loves to rip them up
Favorite People: Mommy, Daddy, Gpa Herget, Uncle J and Aunt Rach
Sleeping: 10 hrs a night, plus 3-4 naps during the day
Comforts: binki and blankies
Latest tricks: sitting up by himself, rolling over, grabbing his binki and putting it in his mouth,
Favorite activites: taking walks, playing with grass, getting his belly "eaten", watching tv, listening to mommy sing, making LOUD noises just to hear his voice, grabbing anything and everything within his reach.

Happy Birthday Mike!!! Although Mike was dreading turning 25, his birthday came all the same and by the end of that night he was having a pretty good time. After going to the dentist in the afternoon, we went to dinner with some friends at TGI Fridays, had cake and ice cream back at our house, and then played Settlers of Catan with Ron and Rachel late into the night. Mike said earlier in the day that he felt like he hadn't accomplished much of anything in his 25 years....well I totally disagree!! Here's to you honey...a little reminder of how much you have already done:

1. Graduated early from H.S. with your GED
2. Served a faithful, honorable mission
3. Got married to a wonderful (ahem :] ) woman in the temple
4. Have stayed married for almost four years
5. Gone from part-time to management at Best Buy and support your family
6. Had a beautiful baby boy who's totally in love with his daddy.

We Love You!!!

"I like to eat, eat, eat, apples and bananas..."
We started Carson on "solid foods" (a more appropriate name would be "mushy foods") about a month ago. He's liked almost everything we've given him so far, but he makes the funniest faces whenever he tries a new food. His favorites are: rice cereal, bananas, cantaloupe, and grapes. He also eats oatmeal, avacado, and applesauce but he doesn't like them quite as much. Here are some pictues of him in his high chair.

Giant Slip n' Slide and Hogle Zoo
(24th of July)

So while Mike was out in San Fran partying it up, Carson and I packed up and headed to Farmington to stay with Mike's parents for a few days. A bunch of Mike's extended family was in town and were all staying up that way. On the 24th of July we all got together at Jeff and Debbie's (Mike's parents) and had a barbeque and made this GIANT Slip n' slide down their front lawn. We slicked it up real good with lots of water and tons of dish soap so people were flying down the lawn. Unfortunately I didn't give it a try, but I had a blast watching other people go down...including Debbie! :)

The next day we got up early, packed the kids up and headed to the zoo! It was Carson's first of I'm sure many visits there. He didn't seem too excited about most the animals, although he did like looking at the monkeys (very fitting, since that's one of our nicknames for him)! We all had fun, but it would have been better if it wasn't so HOT. It was already up to the mid-90s by the time we got their around 10am, so by the time we left we were meltiinnnggggg...

Better Summer Summitt
(July 22)

So because Mike is such an amazing, hard working supervisor at Best Buy, he won this contest they held and got to go to San Francisco for 5 days at the end of July. Only 60 people from 30 stores out of the entire country qualified to go and Mike was one of them! The "Better Summer Summit" (as it was called) turned out to be an amazing and VERY rewarding experience. On the first night, they had an opening banquet and awarded everyone there TONS of free stuff. Among the many things Mike received were:
  • Nikon Digital SLR camera with two lenses and an extra flash
  • Sony Cybershot camera that takes HD pictures
  • A TB external hard drive
  • Epson printer/scanner/copier
  • Digital Video Camera
  • Sony Vaio Laptop
  • TomTom GPS for the car
  • Handheld GPS
  • deck for the car
  • Digital Picture Frame
  • etc, etc,.....

The rest of the time they were there was spent learning how to use their new toys and sightseeing around the city (for instance, one day they had a picture scavenger hunt using their new cameras and had to use their GPS to find points around the city). They were also put up in a 4 star hotel and got a private party/fireworks show aboard the USS Hornet aircraft carrier. Mike had a great time while he was out there and my only complaint was that wives weren't invited! :)

Mike took the pictures below (isn't he good?!):

Wedding bells are ringing
(July 19)

Three weeks after Jennie and Derek's wedding in Nauvoo, we were all back together in Utah for their reception here. The backyard they held it at in Draper was so beautiful. Although we were melting from the intense heat, we all had a good time celebrating!

"Don't Stop Believin!"
(July 11)
JOURNEY came to town! Jason (being the BEST brother in the world) took all the girls to the concert and we had a blast. The highlights of the night were singing along to "Alone" by Heart (the opening band), almost getting jumped by the drunk guy in the parking lot, and the girl in the white shorts...haha :)

"Remember, is a place from long ago..."
(June 21)

I can't believe it's been FIVE YEARS since I graduated from High School. So much has happened since then, but time has flown by in the blink of an eye. I wouldn't trade anything for the life I have now, but it's fun to reminisce every once in awhile about my days as a WJ JAG. My favorite part of high school was my time as a Madrigal my senior year. The 22 of us created so many memories and grew to be a wonderful family. I remember....singing Os Justi in the dark and solos in the stairwells, christmas routines with silly hats, cheese through the drive through, carpool craziness, inter-group hook-ups (me and Craig included), "In His Eyes" at the Showcase w/Mer, Latin at Carnegie Hall, I- at competition, Mr. D, and "Remember This!" forever. Every year since graduation we've gotten together, and this year was no exception. To my dear friends and singing companions: wherever you are and whatever you're doing with your life, I hope you're happy, healthy, and at peace. Although we may not run in the same circles anymore, I will always be your friend and love you forever! Thanks for the memories.
